Glossary
This page defines the words we use across the OneCal documentation. Each concept has exactly one name. If you see a different word for one of these concepts anywhere in the docs or the app, it is a mistake worth reporting to us.
Calendars and connections
- Calendar account: A whole Google, Outlook or iCloud account that you have connected to OneCal. One calendar account usually contains several calendars.
- Calendar: A single calendar inside a calendar account, for example "Work" or "Family".
- Calendar connection: The authorization between OneCal and one calendar account. It covers every calendar in that account. A calendar connection is what expires, and what you refresh. See Fix an Expired Calendar Connection.
- Refresh the calendar connection: Restore access after a calendar connection expires, using the Refresh connection action on the calendar's card. This is the only term we use for this repair.
Calendar Sync
- Calendar sync: A configuration that copies events from one calendar to another. A calendar sync is either one-way or multi-way.
- Source calendar: The calendar a calendar sync copies events from.
- Target calendar: The calendar a calendar sync copies events to, and where clone events appear.
- Original event: An event you created yourself. Original events are the only events OneCal copies.
- Clone event: The copy OneCal creates on a target calendar. OneCal marks its own clone events and never clones them again.
- Identifier: The short text OneCal appends to clone event titles, "(Clone)" by default, so you can tell clone events apart from original events. See Add an Identifier to Clone Events.
- Sync configuration: The settings that control what a calendar sync copies: titles, description, participants, location, colors and privacy.
- Sync run: One full pass of a calendar sync, in which OneCal reads every event in the source calendars and rebuilds the clone events in the target calendars. A sync run is what is queued when you create, re-run, un-pause or edit a calendar sync. We say sync run, not job or task.
- Sync status: What the Status column of the Synchronizations table shows for a calendar sync: In Queue, In Progress, Success, Error or Paused. See Sync statuses.
Booking Links
- Booking link: A link schedulers use to book time with you. A booking link is one-on-one or collective.
- Booking page: Your public profile at
onecal.io/b/your-username, listing all your booking links. See Set Up Your Booking Page. - Confirmation page: The page for a single booking, showing its status and the reschedule and cancel actions. This is not your booking page.
- Scheduler: The person booking time with you. Also the
{{scheduler}}template variable. - Host: The owner of a booking link. A collective booking link has more than one host. The matching template variable keeps its original name,
{{organizer}}. - Availability schedule: The weekly hours you are open for bookings.
- Date exceptions: Overrides to your availability schedule for specific dates, such as holidays or travel days. The button is Add Exception.
- Confirmation (approval) requirement: The setting that makes each booking wait for the host to approve it. This is not the confirmation screen a scheduler sees after booking.
Team and account
- OneCal account: Your own account with OneCal.
- Login account: A Google, Microsoft or Apple identity you have linked for signing in. You link and unlink login accounts; you connect and disconnect calendar accounts.
- Team: The billed group of people in OneCal. We say team, not workspace.
- Organization: Your own company, outside OneCal, for example your identity provider or Microsoft tenant. An organization is not a OneCal team.
- Team member: A person in your team. In billing, a team member occupies a seat, which is the unit we charge for.
A team has four roles:
- Owner: Created the team and has full control. A team can only have one Owner.
- Admin: Can manage the team and billing.
- Member: A regular team member, who cannot manage the team or billing.
- Billing Only: Can see and manage billing. Billing Only team members are free, take no paid seat, and cannot use features such as Calendar Sync or Booking Links.
See Assign Roles for how to change someone's role.
Finding your way around the web app
OneCal has a single web app with one home and a set of pages in the left sidebar. We name the page rather than saying "the dashboard", because on its own that could mean any of them.
- OneCal dashboard: The home you land on after signing in. This is the only thing "the dashboard" means on its own.
- Calendar Sync: The sidebar page holding the Synchronizations table, where you pause, un-pause, re-run and edit your calendar syncs. See Manage Your Syncs.
- Team Dashboard: A page under Team in the sidebar, giving Owners and Admins a read-only view of how each team member has set up OneCal. It is enabled on request. See Team Dashboard.
