I See Duplicate Events
You should not see multiple duplicates of the same event on the same calendar from OneCal.
Four words are used precisely on this page:
- A clone event is an event OneCal itself creates on a target calendar.
- An original event is an event you created yourself.
- A copy is an original event that you duplicated by hand between calendars, usually before you started using OneCal.
- A duplicate is only the symptom: seeing the same event more than once.
If you are seeing several clone events of the same original event, it is almost always due to one of these reasons:
1. Another sync system is active at the same time
Make sure you are not using another calendar sync system alongside OneCal. People often try multiple sync systems and forget to disable them before trying a new one. If you have used another sync system before, revoke its calendar access to prevent interference.
2. You are viewing multiple calendars at once
OneCal creates a clone event on each target calendar. When you view all these calendars at the same time, you see one event for each calendar, which can feel overwhelming with more than 2 calendars. The OneCal Unified Calendar View helps here, as it can hide clone events and show only the original events.
3. More than one original copy of the event exists
People sometimes manually copy events between calendars before using OneCal. OneCal cannot associate these pre-existing copies with each other, so it treats each copy as an original event and creates clone events for it on the other calendars. To fix this, identify these old copies and remove them manually. Temporarily pausing your calendar syncs can make this easier.
Clone Events Cloning Each Other Is Not a Cause
Only your original events are cloned. OneCal marks the clone events it creates and skips them when reading a calendar for events to sync, so a clone event never becomes the source of another clone event, not even when you sync two calendars in both directions. See Does OneCal clone its own clone events?.
How to clean up the duplicates
Temporarily pause your calendar sync: open the three dots menu at the end of the sync's row and select Pause. In the confirmation dialog, check Also delete clone events created by this sync before confirming. That checkbox, not pausing on its own, is what removes the clone events OneCal already created. Pausing stops the calendar sync from creating new ones while you investigate. See Manage Your Syncs for details.
Once you are sure that no other sync system is active, that you are viewing one calendar at a time, and that you have removed any manual copies of the events, un-pause the calendar sync. OneCal re-creates its clone events automatically.
